EIKT 2020
Hello again! Apologies for the gap in these reports but alas time and exams took over but we are back at last and kicking things off with a bang at EIKT.
We travelled up on Friday and after trekking round Edinburgh trying to find a spoons that wasn't absolutely rammed we gave up and retreated to near our hostel and discovered a bar that can only be described as Chris' idea of heaven. Having managed to drag him away to the welcome social we then started beer pong. Note to self, apart from Grace we aren't very good at it. Meanwhile, the rest of us had arrived and somehow managed to pick up an extra. Jordan, we have no idea where you came from or who you are but you made it eventful.
Having travelled and only just finished exams an early night was in order. Unless of course you're Kate who found it far more entertaining falling off the steps of the bunk bed instead. Strange... Anyway.
Saturday arrived and after a scenic tour of Edinburgh to find Tesco we arrived. Things kicked off with a promising 3-1 loss to Strathclyde before we narrowly lost out to Ed Uni 2 4-3. After that was Holland 2 who unsurprisingly were very very good. Then we had to face Hawks and Oxfordshire. Unfortunately depsite some good performances and the emergence of Brendan as the man who only does long distance screamers (didn't even celebrate, just gave us a sassy shoulder shrug) we ended up losing all of our pool games. The difference in quality from the start of the the day to the end though was unbelievable.
Saturday night is ceilidh night as anyone who knows anything about EIKT will know. Before that though we had the emergence of the korf bromance you didn't know you needed. Step forward Ollie and Liam. Ollie having spent his free afternoon in Edinburgh deciding to visit Lidl, had cooked dinner for Liam. Well... when I say Ollie cooked, Ollie abandoned his new love in favour of Pav. He then followed this up by leaving Liam to cook for them instead whilst tucking into his second bottle of wine in the hour.
Having eaten we returned to a rather revealing pre-drinks at which one half of our favourite old married couple, Jack, or Spud as he shall now be known, is in fact the Spud, scarecrow from Bob the Builder in disguise. It's the laugh that seals it.
Onwards to the ceilidh we went and having realised that the only people amongst who knew how to ceilidh even remotely were Chris and Jack (personally a quite concerning revelation) we bumbled our way through. Then when we could finally hear what was actually being said and more alcohol had been consumed (sharpens the mind and all that) we actually got pretty good! Although probably best not doing the 'basket thing' with guys shorter than girls and should probably have forewarned them what was going to happen first before being flung around off the floor and drunk.
Then Hive arrived. Having taken over the cocktail bar- Ollie apologising to Liam by buying him several free drinks before again disappearing to make new friends- everyone decided it would be a great idea to get covered in glitter. I am still finding it now...
Sunday morning then came, along with a nice side of hangovers. However, it turns out that truly hungover korf is the only way to play. We beat Glasgow 5-3!! I swear I have no idea where that performance came from. I have waited 2 years of korf to win the first game of the day at a tournament again and I was not expecting it to be this one! It was like everyone had had an overnight epiphany and somehow had been shot with a load of energy. The best part was that it wasn't even a one off. In fairness, the hangovers may have started to take a slight toll against Storm (120 miles to play a local derby) when we still played really well especially in defence but started to get a bit tired in attack. Finally we ended up against Saints. We raced into a 3-1 lead and Saints were completely out of it until we simply couldn't carry on running around like we had been. Alas we finished a club high 20th!
Now, normally I would finish here with MVPs etc. but unfortunately I must report a crime against the culinary arts by Ollie. Everything appeared to be fine when we were driving home only for the group on the train to reveal to us that Mr Cook had indeed placed cold burnt bacon and ketchup on to even colder pasta. Liam perhaps you cooking the night before saved you from food poisoning.
My MVPs of the weekend go to Jenny and Liam but I would also like to give most improved player awards to Brendan and Kate. Brendan please learn to celebrate when you score because it's only not fair how smooth you are after a goal currently although if you keep progressing at that rate I won't complain.
Finally thank you to Jenny for organising our food, Jack and Amy (our ******** old married couple - those of you there not what I'm referring to) for basically parenting us the whole weekend supplying us with everything we needed except mayo.
Next up is BUCS so I shall see you in a week for more. Until then...
