NEKA Tournament 2019

Hello! Welcome back and congratulations to everyone who made their debuts last weekend at the inaugural NEKA beginner's tournament!

Most of our newbies were playing for Uni B and what a baptism of fire that was starting the day against Storm 1. But they learnt quickly and as the day progressed we improved immeasurably. After being held to a 3-3 draw by Titans they carried the momentum forward to their game against Uni A who they beat 4-1!

Uni A had a good pre-season warm up with their first competitive minutes of the year plus VIK (very important korfer) guest appearances from Peter and James. The team played some really good stuff but just couldn't get the shots to sink. However, they did beat Northumbria which is all that matters right ;)

So in a rather bizzare turn of events Uni A, Uni B and Northumbria all finished on 4 points! Uni B came out on top in 4th on highest number of goals scored.

Overall everyone had a really fun day and it was nice to not have to travel 100 miles for a tournament for once! A big thanks to Georgia and Fateh for running their teams whilst Chris was organising the tournament.

MVPs for the day were; Lottie Rhodes, Fateh Singh, Liam Reynolds and Emma Vickers. A special shoutout to Jacob who improved immensely throughout the day and scored so great shots!

A shoutout also to Ola, Rebekah, Fateh and Jack for passing their referee theory courses and Chris for becoming a qualified referee.

Next up is the start of the NEKL with Uni 2 vs Storm 2 on this Sunday, 4:30pm KO at the Sports Centre. All are welcome to come down and support so please be there to cheer us on!

Until next time, HOWAY THE KORF!
