2nd Place at Glasgow
Hello! Welcome back to the land of korfball! Before I get too stuck in I would just like to say how amazing it was to have over a 100 people try korfball for the first ever time at the taster sessions this year :O
Now on Saturday a few of us headed up to Glasgow with local club Northern Storm to compete as a joint team in their tournament and so StormHawks was born along with a rather questionable pre-match chant that firmly confirmed our place as nut cases. It also included a special return from alumni James now studying in Stirling and a surprise literal guest appearance from Lee.
We kicked the day off with a 3-1 win over Saint Andrews thanks to goals from James and Helena before being held to a 1-1 draw against Glasgow. We stuttered a bit against Ed Uni 1 and with Chris left wanting to bury himself in a hole following his missed penalties. StormHawks bounced back though with a 3-0 dismissal of Strathclyde that could have been more to leave us top of the group!
A semi-final awaited against Ed Uni 2 who we managed to blitz past 7-0 after a much improved display and probably our best of the day.
Now in typical Scottish korfball fashion there was a final.... against Mavs. What a surprise.... Apparently they didn't get the memo that this was a fun beginner's tournament either with 4 of their Scottish internationals playing! Naturally this was an uphill task for us but we didn't fare too badly. After a disappointing first half where they led at the break 7-2 we improved significantly to get a 4-2 result in the second, leaving the final score at 11-4.
My player of the day goes to James who having not touched a korfball for 6 months scored within minutes. It was also great to see you again and we can't wait to have you back in a couple of weeks.
Thanks also to Storm for sharing with us and hopefully we can do more things like this in the future as it was a really fun day.
