NEKL: Uni 2 vs Titans
I'm back! We had our 2s take on Titans tonight in the final instalment of the korfball marathon that has taken place over the last few days.
With a woman down and Titans a man down we played 7v7. How this works is one person in the set of 4 can't shoot. It sounds weird because it is weird. Anyhow, Titans opened the scoring before we Chris quickly responded despite being half blind (a ball didn't like him so decided to knock his contacts out).
The game was very nip and tuck from that point onwards and with James, Laura and Matt all contributing to the score line, uni 2 trailed 6-5 at half time. A fair reflection of the game at that point, a few less errors and we'd be in with a real chance.
Roll on part 2 and the scoring got under way with two beauties. Titans (Miles) sinking a long range effort before James responded with one of his own. At the rate he's going I'll be calling them a James special.
Entering into the last 15 minutes the scores were 9-7 and Titans were tiring. All we had to do was keep our cool and we had it. James duly obliged with his third of the evening to take it to 9-8 before Titans stretched their lead back to 10-8. However, a well worked runner meant we entered the dying stages of the game 10-9. We tried the same move again on the next attack and won a penalty which Chris sank on the final whistle to finish the game at 10-10.
Considering the fact uni 1 lost 10-2 to them just two months ago shows just how far the squad have come in such a short space of time. On that note I would like to give MVP to Anna for reflecting just that. Not only did she score her first goal, she also played the entire game in a 3 person half as the only girl. Something which even experienced players have struggled with and yet she looked completely at home. Keep up the good work Anna!
With that it is time to say goodbye for now. It is has been a hectic first semester of korf at Newcastle. We've seen the club grow to 35 members, entered 2 teams into BUCS and have almost conquered the art of the social. Pretty successful I'd say.
From all of us at the club I wish you a very merry christmas and an even merrier korfmas.
Until next time, HOWAY THE KORF!
