SKA Cup 2018/19

Newcastle ventured to Edinburgh (quite a few) Sunday's ago as we went to take part in the Scotland Korfball Association Cup (SKA to you and me). The top two teams would progress to the finals in Dundee in February.

First up was St Andrews whom we beat quite comfortably in a dominant display thanks to Chris converting the penalty that Julia won. The number chances we managed to create though you could've made that 7 or 8! However warm up time didn't really exist so some rustiness was to be expected.

Next up was Mavericks... For those of you new to the korfball world, playing Mavs is like taking on the All Blacks in a World Cup final. You know its gonna be tough and you know they're probably gonna win. So we'll skip past that one as that one was a bit boring.

Dundee beckoned afterwards and Harry was a fire bagging himself a neat little hat-trick as the game finished 3-3. A tough one to take given how well we had played. We followed this up with a rematch for one of our new players, Julia against her old club Glasgow who we narrowly succumbed to a 2-1 loss. The added experience and tactics proving too much for us.

To finish off the day on a high we had Ed Uni 2 to play, a team we have historically done well against. It looked set to continue that way we went 1-0 up early on before some frustrating refereeing unfairly punished us and saw them take the game 3-1. We'll see what happens when we meet this weekend at BUCS ;)

Apologies this is so vague. I thought I'd written this three weeks ago but apparently not! We have my Storm reports and BUCS report to come though so stay tuned.. It's gonna go crazy

Also a big shoutout to all the refs who qualified at the event! You were all fab considering how little experience you had and as a ref myself I appreciate how difficult it can be.
