Newcastle NEKA struggles continue

Sorry for the late update folks! I've been a busy bee the last week and so this match report has been a bit delayed but alas it is here now. Last Thursday we took on Northumbria to kickstart our final run of NEKA league fixtures. Unlike our opponents who had hit the bar and made the most of the hot sunny weather (I envy them really) we turned up ready to continue our search for a first NEKA League win.

We started off pretty well, going 3-1 up and we were moving the ball around well but struggling to capitalise on the opportunities we had and allowed Northumbria too much time in attack. As a result, by the time the match reached half time we were 5-6 down.

However, we would not be laying down quietly which showed the leaps and bounds by which our team has come on this year. Heading into the last 10 minutes we were strong at 8-8 and the game was well and truly in the balance (I certainly felt nervous enough watching from the sidelines). Our lack of match time since our storming BUCS success started to show though as we were beginning to creak a bit and in particular our attack started to rely heavily on Lottie and Rebekah, who both had outstanding games.

The match turned into a last goal wins scenario and Northumbria managed to clinch it with a well worked runner to take it to 9-8.

Yet again we came agonisingly close, but the team can be proud as this was our first game since BUCS and first time playing at all for 6 weeks for some! We now look forward to taking them on again this Sunday 5pm at Sports Central and it would be great to see as many people there in support as possible to see us over the line.

I'd also like to give a shoutout to Jonny and Matt on their debuts.

PS. I've butchered the goal scoring stats so sorry to anyone if I've got it wrong.
