BUCS Regionals
Nighthawks travelled down to Lancaster today rocking our sexy new kit to try and cement a place at the National Finals in March. Led by Captain Korf herself, Lottie (also a damn good cook, those shortbreads got me through the day), we started with a strong 5-4 win against Strathclyde before taking on Leeds 2s. After falling 3-0 behind early on we came back into it with some good defensive work to level up the scores but couldn't hang on as the game ended 6-5 to Leeds 2. Next up was Leeds 1 who were favourites to top the group and we did ourselves proud despite a 10-3 loss fairing better against them then any other team in the group.
This left us with one game to play against St Andrews which we needed to have a strong win against in order to finish 2nd in the group and hope to qualify. After what seemed like an eternity at 2-2 the deadlock was broken... unfortunately by St Andrews and we lost 4-2. This meant we finished 4th in our group do could no longer get through to nationals but a place in the trophy was still up for grabs.
We kicked off the afternoon against Manchester 2s. Let's not talk about that one but it did not go well. So to salvage the day we had one last game against Edinburgh 2s and I'm not gonna lie we #smashedit. 5-1 up inside the first five minutes was the signs of the true Newcastle side we know we can be and the game finished up as a 10-7 win.
So to sum up our day we had a bit of a rough one but we capped it off on a high and we got to eat some damn cake and now have a realistic chance of winning some silverware at the BUCS Plate. Onwards and upwards Nighthawks!
